Biography - Jade Blackwater Jade Leone Blackwater grew up among the evergreens of Seattle, Washington and enjoys a life-long love affair with all things green and growing. Jade earned her Bachelor of Arts from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington where she studied forest ecology under Dr. Nalini Nadkarni. After graduating, Jade supported the production of Nadkarni’s latest book, Between Earth and Sky: Our Intimate Connections to Trees (University of California Press, 2008). By day, Jade is the owner and creative consultant at Brainripples (www.brainripples.com) where she provides writing and editing services to corporate, academic, and literary clients. By night, Jade is a prolific poet and fiction writer who encourages others to pursue their own, unique voice. Jade's poetry has been published in The Monongahela Review. She can be found blogging independently at Arboreality, Brainripples, and AppleJade where she writes about ecology and conservation, art and creativity, and sustainability and gardening, respectively. In 2009 Jade became a Co-Manager for The Festival of the Trees blog carnival, a monthly online celebration of trees and forests. Jade has served as Area Representative and currently serves as Coordinator of Area Representatives at Pennwriters, Inc., a non-profit organization supporting writers at all levels. She is the Co-Founder of the Pacific Northwest Pennwriters Chapter. When Jade isn’t writing she can usually be found getting dirty in the garden or hiking the local forests. |
